Offering a full 1920 x 1080 high-definition resolution, the PLV-Z800 delivers rich, deep and accurate colors due to SANYO's exclusive Topaz Real HD Technology, a 3D color management system that addresses changes in color phase and color level to obtain perfect color reproduction. The PLV-Z800's color management system provides 1110 times more color combinations than SANYO's 720p PLV-Z5, a total of approximately 216 billion possible color combinations. Sanyo PLV Z800 vs. Epson EH TW3500

It's a no contest!

  • Epson is made in China, Sanyo is made in Japan
  • Sanyo has a 3 year warranty including the lamp (Aussie stock only)
  • Epson 6 months lamp & 2 years on the projector |link|
  • Sanyo makes a lot less fan noise, it's super quiet
  • Sanyo has a Dust Door to protect the projector when not in use
  • 12 Bit processing vs 10 Bit processing
  • Price

The Epson TW1000 & TW3500 are very good projectors, it's LCD which we love (as opposed to DLP) but if you could buy something just as good or better, with a way better warranty and at a lower price wouldn't you consider it?

* 19dB is the same as the Z3000 so we think it would be wise marketing to up it a bit. Many have see the Z800 21dB brochures. We have documents stating it's really the same as the Z3000, the Z800 uses the same fan and has the same lamp wattage..

  • VIRTUALLY SILENT FAN DESIGN
".. A 1200 lumen projector generates a tremendous amount of heat and
requires a high quality fan to ensure proper operation. At this level of
brightness, the fan is ‘on’ most of the time and the noise can be extremely
loud and disruptive, especially in smaller home theaters where the
projector and the audience are in the same vicinity. To promote greater
enjoyment of the film and to reduce noise levels during quiet passages of
a film, the PLV-Z800 is equipped with the industry’s quietest fan, a large
aperture, low noise Sirocco cooling fan that never rises above 19dB in the
    economy mode.."

Review at Trusted Reviews UK

"..Setting the Z700 up really couldn't be easier. For starters it's got all the connections you could reasonably expect for its money, including twin HDMIs, two component video inputs, and a PC port.

...

Even better, though, is the superb amount of optical image shift available. Simple wheels down the lens's right hand side enable you to shunt the picture up or down by as much as three full screen sizes, or left and right over as much as two screen sizes. This means you don't have to place the projector directly in line with the centre of your screen, making it much more accommodating of weird shaped rooms than your average budget projector. As if all this wasn't enough, the Z700 also offers a x2 optical zoom, which enables it to adapt itself to an unusual variety of room sizes as well as shapes.

...

The only time things start to get a little complicated - but mostly in a good way - is when you start delving into the Z700's on-screen menus. For these contain a really remarkably long list of features for such a cheapo projector.

...

Particularly unexpected is the presence of a startlingly sophisticated colour management system. This actually allows you to manually choose a colour tone from the picture you're watching using a movable ‘target' cursor, and alter that tone's colour phase, level and gamma elements via a simple menu list of alternative tones stretching out to either side of the original settings. Even JVC's recently reviewed £3,500 HD350 didn't manage to deliver colour management as sophisticated as this!

...

"..while it lacks the colour finesse to deliver quite as much texture subtlety as some slightly more expensive projectors, for its money the amount of detail and noiseless clarity evident in shots like the one where our soon-to-be-ashes 30 Days hero stares across a bright frozen landscape is actually very impressive.."

...

Other unexpected discoveries include five thematic image presets (of which we'd recommend the Brilliant and Creative Cinema options), five memory slots where you can store your own calibrated presets, manual gamma adjustment, unusually flexible lamp control should you want to sacrifice some brightness for better black levels/quieter fan noise, adjustable transient improvement, adjustable contrast improvement, an auto black stretch facility, three manual iris adjustments, a remarkably expansive and subtle iris range adjustment, and even the facility to customise the gamma settings. Phew.

...

Verdict

"..I like Sanyo's thinking with the PLV-Z700. For the world definitely needs a £1,000 or so Full HD LCD projector as a cheap alternative option for anyone who can't live with the rainbow effect produced by InFocus's aggressively price X10 and IN80 DLP models.." Review

"..Compared to most projectors in this price range it's an absolute beast, measuring 40cm wide, 15cm tall and 37cm deep and weighing 7.5kg. There's no shortage of ports at the rear; S-Video, composite and VGA inputs are joined by two component and two HDMI. The supplied remote looks a bit dated, but the large, backlit keys make it easy to use in the dark. Should the remote make its way down the back of your sofa, nine buttons sat on top of the projector chassis can be used to access the menu system.

Switch the projector on and the lens door automatically slides back, which is a nice touch. It's also incredibly quiet.."

...

"..Thanks to its 1,200 ANSI lumens, the PLV-Z700 was able to produce a viewable image even in a reasonably well lit room. The only real complaint we had was that despite the 10,000:1 contrast ratio, black levels weren't quite as relatively dark as we'd like. By default, the PLV-Z700 will adjust the light levels depending on the content, however we weren't sold on this as the sudden shifts in brightness were often all too noticeable. Fortunately you can turn this feature off.."

Sanyo - PLV-Z700 features - Verdict

If you don't plan on providing it with much HD content, there are plenty of cheaper projectors available. But if you want to experience 1080p video in its full glory, the Sanyo PLV-Z700 is currently one of the cheapest Full HD projectors around, and as an entry-level model it performs extremely well. Review

The newly released Sanyo PLV-Z700 , the company's latest 1080p projector, uses the same design as the Z2000, with identical casework, color, and connection panel. Other than the model number sticker, you can't tell the difference between them from the outside.

Light Engine: 1920x1080, native 16:9, three-panel inorganic LCD with 165W UHP lamp.

The Sanyo Z700 is an impressive home theater projector that delivers the ideal 1080p resolution format at a very low price. Its overall image quality is solid, and contrast is competitive by last year's 1080p LCD standards. This fall several higher contrast LCD models are being released, including the newly announced Sanyo PLV-Z3000, which carries a full on/off rating of 65,000:1 (scheduled to ship in December). The Z700 does not, and never was intended, to compete in the same contrast league as the higher contrast models that sell for at least $1,000 more. Basically, it offers the consumer on a budget a special value proposition--you can have 1080p performance at a rock bottom price, and if you are willing to give up some contrast you can keep the extra $1,000 in your pocket. That is a deal many cost-conscious consumers will be keenly interested in.

The Z700 rates the full five stars for value for being the least expensive 1080p projector coming to market this fall. It lacks the contrast capability of the 1080p competition and therefore we've given it a lower performance rating as compared to the more expensive models. But it is a tremendous value - for the money, it produces a beautiful picture. Review
