Sanyo PLV- Z2000 1080 true HD projector

SANYO Sanyo PLV Z2000 projector reviews, prices vs. Epson EMP TW 2000

PLV-Z2000 sets a new standard in Home Theatre experiences

Superior Colour reproduction - 3D Colour Management - individual control of saturation, gamma and hue - "Deep Colour" compatibility via HDMI - 12-bit driver for 68.7 billion colours and 216 billion possible colour combinations!

LP-Z2000    Made in Japan

You may consider the Sanyo PLV-Z2000 a better buy than the Epson TW2000 because:
(Note comments apply to Australian models only)

  • Sanyo PLV Z 2000 image processor can handle 64 times the colours
  • The Z2000 is quieter, which is important if the projector is close to your seating position
  • It's made in Japan, some people like that better |more|
  • Protective automatic dust door helps keep dust out when not in use
  • Now also comes with 3 year warranty covers the lamp too*
  • Lower (street price) purchase cost = greater value for money (Ask us)

Contrast Ratio Wars!

Epson TW2000 claims 50,000:1 Contrast ratio often leave out "up to" and don't make a big deal that the real contrast (native) is 4,000:1 so higher is in "Dynamic" mode which is not great for cinema! (Too cartoon like) So go for the projector with the highest CLAIMED Contrast Ratio or get one with 64 times the number of colours that’s almost a grand cheaper, made in Japan and quieter. The Epson TW2000 is a great projector but how much $$$ more should you pay?

  • We think it's mostly hype about CR anyway |more|

Winner 2008 Editors' Choice - June 2008

"..You'll be blown away once you feed it true HD programs. You really can't go wrong, everyone loved the Z5 and they will love this model even more.."

-- HCC HomeCinemaCentral

"..The Sanyo Z2000 is a tough new competitor that establishes the latest benchmark in 1080p price/performance. It offers excellent image quality, a host of features, and very few flaws, all for an industry-leading rock bottom price. If you have been waiting for prices to drop before stepping up to 1080p, the Z2000 is the product you've been waiting for.."

"..This is a dramatic competitive move indeed. It will surely undermine the viability of the industry's 1080p price structure, to the consternation of competitors and dealers alike. But for the consumer it's great news....welcome to high performance 1080p at prices you've never seen before.."

-- ProjectorCentral

".. Well, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. The patient among us have been rewarded with the SANYO PLV-Z2000 , SANYO's 1080p LCD Home Theater projector. Boasting full 1080p resolution, a new **Epson LCD chipset for deeper blacks and a super-quiet fan, the PLV-Z2000 is a home theater enthusiast's dream.."

"..Let's face it; I love the SANYO PLV-Z series projectors and the Z2000 has done nothing to change that opinion. I still have a PLV-Z2, and I've coveted the Z5 since our original review. But the Z2000 is really the one I've been waiting for. When fed high quality 1080p sources, the projector really shines with blinding whites and blacks that approach the depth of rival projectors costing 3 to 4 times as much. I never knew how good LCD's contrast could be until seeing/testing the Z2000.."

"..Yes, full HD 1080p sources are few and far between, but there'll be more eventually. The projector is not the absolute best we have seen at de-interlacing and upconverting standard definition sources to its native panel resolution, but in actual viewing of standard def material, we were not overly bothered by any lack of detail or interlacing artifacts. In fact, the Z2000's treatment of standard definition material was eminently watchable, and better than what we have seen on many other displays. .. the answer is easy. The Z2000 rules.."

Both the Epson & Sanyo 1080 HD models have far better lens shift (so you don't need to use keystone compensation) than the Panasonic AE200. Better warranty too (3 years+lamp)

SANYO WILL NOT REPAIR IMPORTS OR "GRAY MARKET" PROJECTORS.

21 December 2007

To: AIM Digital Imaging

Dear Steve,

RE: Parallel imports of Sanyo LCD Projectors including PLV Z2000.

Thank you for your inquiry on this matter.

Sanyo Oceania's policy is to only provide warranty protection for Sanyo projectors purchased through authorised dealers (as listed on our website).

This policy has been established to ensure that our customers will enjoy the on-going benefits of dealing with well established businesses that have the necessary expertise to support all aspects of the purchase experience.

Ranging from a high level of professionalism obtained from the depth and breadth of knowledge and initial information provided, to a comprehensive after sales service back up in the event this should be required.

We believe that our customer's best interests must be protected, and it is only by supporting businesses that have demonstrated the ability and willingness to maintain the necessary processes and procedures can this be achieved.

For this reason we will actively avoid supporting importers who are not able to meet the minimum standards Sanyo Oceania and our customers expect.

Yours faithfully,

John Gillam
National Service Manager
Sanyo Oceania

In the case of the Z2000 most Grey Market imports start with "LP-Z" and are also marked 110 volts. -- AIM

WARNING Some Gray Market sellers are telling fibs about the warranty they offer!

We buy in bulk so a lower price has almost always turned out to be "Gray Market" = No 3 year Lamp/Projector warranty!

" I am keen to confirm that Projector Point are not a local approved Sanyo reseller."

" PLV Z2000 stock promoted by Projector Point is not imported by Sanyo Oceania and is not covered by local warranty, and certainly does not receive our special 3 year coverage for both the projector and the lamp."

"As we state on our website, our 3 year warranty offer is strictly limited to projectors sold within Australia and New Zealand by our approved resellers and must have a genuine third year extended warranty card supplied with the projector to qualify.”

I hope that this clarifies the issue.

Do you really need 1080 HD?

That depends on how far back you intend to sit! If you're right on top of a TV then why not, but from say 5-6m back from a projected image the difference would not be great between a 720p (Still HD) and 1080p HD Max..

See for yourself the following 2 images simulate 720 & 1080 sitting at your PC it's easy to see the difference but try 3m back :)

For illustration only, not to scale.

If you want to save money and still have fantastic HD consider the Sanyo PLV-Z5
