When you review document scanners you soon find out it's not all about DPI as you generally need just 200DPI to reproduce a document to fine fax standard. Colour photos using 300DPI will give you 1:1 reproduction whereas 600DPI will allow you to enlarge a 6 x 4 photo to A4 easily. Paper handling is also very important.

What's really important is the document path and feeder. Does it jam? Accept different paper weights? But the best scan is useless if you can't use it so what software does the scanner come with or will it interface with your existing software? If you're scanning documents chances are you'll want to find them again so scanning into a format that allows full text searching may be a feature you'll appreciate later!
